The United States Postal Service today announced a new pricing strategy for Priority Mail in an effort to capitalize on the increasingly popular service. The new pricing includes a reduction for businesses and other customers who use Commercial Plus and Commercial Base online shipping services. Prices for Commercial Base customers will be reduced an average of 0.9 percent, and prices for Commercial Plus customers will decline an average of 2.3 percent. Priority Mail at post offices and other retail outlets will see an increase of 1.7 percent.

Nagisa Manabe, chief marketing/sales officer, said the USPS will not be implementing new dimensional-weight charges, as some in the industry have adopted.

The USPS will continue to offer free insurance, expected delivery day, flat-rate packaging options and Regional Rate Boxes for Priority Mail.

The Postal Regulatory Commission will review the new prices, which if approved, will become effective September 7th, 2014.

Highlights of the new proposed retail pricing for Priority Mail includes:

Small box – $5.95
Medium box – $12.65
Large box – $17.90
Large APO/FPO box – $15.90
Regular envelope – $5.75
Legal envelope – $5.90
Padded envelope – $6.10
