During a regular news conference concerning the Federal government’s continuing response to the coronavirus pandemic, a reporter asked President Trump if he was responsible for $25 billion being stripped from the Postal Service in the CARES Act. Trump responded that the Postal Service has been losing billions for many years and that he is not responsible for the demise of the Postal Service. Trump continued, blaming “Internet companies” (such as Amazon) for the Postal Service’s demise, stating that if the USPS would charge more for the Internet companies’ package deliveries that “the Post Office could make money or break even.” Trump double downed on his claim that the USPS loses money on every package they deliver for the Internet companies, blaming the postal commission for not raising prices.
